FFA Member Experiences

Future Farmers of America or as more commonly known, FFA, is an amazing student organization for those who are interested in agriculture and leadership. FFA offers numerous and diverse opportunities for students across America. Whether youth are dreaming of being a farmer or striving to be a doctor, FFA teaches students the leadership and integrity that it takes to follow their dreams. Not only does FFA offer career education, but also empowers students to be independent, well rounded and personally successful. Standlee is proud to support FFA by honoring the traditions of the farming and agricultural industry. FFA impacts members for the rest of their life. We reached out to former FFA members to get their thoughts surrounding their FFA experience and this is what they had to say.

1. Why did you join FFA?

"I joined FFA as an opportunity to advance my knowledge of the agriculture and enhance my professional skills, in an effort to better position me for a career in agriculture. Looking back, I would have never guessed that the lessons I learned, people I met, and opportunities I was granted would still be shaping me today."

- Jessica L.

"I joined the FFA because my grandpa always talked about his time in FFA when he was in high school and how he took those values into farming."

- Shill M.

2. What did FFA teach you?

"FFA helped to mold me into the person I am today by opening doors that I never would have looked at. Learning to set goals, and how to fulfill them is a foundation teaching for FFA. Compassion and thoughtfulness for your world and the people you share the world with, are ingrained into all aspects. The FFA creed outlines the way that we were raised and grown. The 4th paragraph was always a favorite, because we who work for our goals can enjoy the abundance, but we can help and share that abundance as well thru honesty and decency."

- Taylor P.

"FFA taught me that any goal is achievable with hard work. On the journey to achieving goals there are numerous high and low points, but enduring the ride and staying committed will get you so much farther than I could have ever imagined."

- Jessica L.

3. How did your time in FFA influence who you are today?

"My time in FFA opened some doors into careers and job opportunities that I never thought I would have enjoyed and it made me work hard to get where I am today."

"I would say it helped in maturing me. With the better record keeping skills. I am able to keep better records for my cattle. Teamwork skills help in my current job. As I constantly work with mechanics. Also, I am better at getting the correct info for warranty claims that I submit. Do to better record keeping. I am proud to have my American Farmer Degree."
